Helsingborg Becomes Host City for Sweden’s First NATO Meeting

In May 2026, Helsingborg will host NATO’s informal foreign ministers’ meeting – the first of its kind to be held in Sweden. A historic event for the country, but also for the city. During the meeting, over 1,000 delegates, officials, security experts, and journalists will gather to discuss the future of security and cooperation.
Hosting a NATO meeting in Helsingborg is partly the result of long-term work on issues such as safety, preparedness, and strategic development. We have taken important steps along the way, and we continue to learn and develop together.

With its geographical location in southern Sweden and proximity to national and international infrastructure, Helsingborg plays a key role in issues related to logistics, supply preparedness, and trade.
LUPREP – The Future Knowledge Hub for Crisis and Preparedness
At the same time, the city’s role in total defense and resilience is strengthened. Lund University Campus Helsingborg is investing 37 million SEK in the establishment of a new center that brings together research, education, and actors from the public sector, business, and civil society called LUPREP – Centre for Preparedness and Resilience.
