Getting Married – Civil Ceremony
Do you want to have a civil wedding ceremony in Helsingborg? You can easily book it yourself.
A civil ceremony is a wedding completely without religious elements. You book the ceremony in three steps.
Step 1: Apply for a marriage licence (hindersprövning) and certificate of no impediment
To be able to book, you need a valid marriage licence and certificate of no impediment. These documents are ordered from the Swedish Tax Agency (Skatteverket). It may take a few weeks to receive them. Read more about what you should consider before booking your ceremony, for example how to apply for the marriage licence and certificate.
Step 2: Book the ceremony
You can get married in the ceremonial room at the Town Hall (Rådhuset) on Saturdays between 12:00 and 14:00. You can also choose your own location and only book a wedding officiant. The ceremony can be booked no earlier than four months and no later than two weeks before the desired date.
During a ceremony at the Town Hall, up to 10 people may attend. This includes the officiant, the couple, and the two witnesses. If you would like a longer ceremony with more guests, we recommend submitting a booking request for an officiant to come to a location of your choice.
You book your ceremony via the online service. To use the civil ceremony e-service, you need an e-ID, such as BankID or Mobile BankID. On the website e-legitimation.se, you can read more about e-ID and how to obtain one.
Ceremony at the Town Hall
You book a civil ceremony at the Town Hall through the online service.
Once your ceremony is booked, we will send a booking confirmation with practical information, payment details, and the contact information for the officiant assigned to you.
The ceremony fee is non-refundable if you cancel.
Ceremony at another location
We can perform ceremonies anywhere within the Hela Familjen Helsingborg area (Bjuv, Båstad, Helsingborg, Höganäs, Klippan, Landskrona, Perstorp, Svalöv, Åstorp, Ängelholm, and Örkelljunga). If you want to get married somewhere other than the Town Hall in Helsingborg, you can submit a booking request. Use the online service to book a civil ceremony outside the Town Hall.
After we receive your booking request, we will schedule an officiant for you. We will then send a booking confirmation with practical information, payment details, and the contact information for the officiant assigned to you.
Pay for the ceremony by transferring the fee to PlusGiro 13 283-7 after your booking has been confirmed. Include your names and booking number. The fee is non-refundable if you cancel.
Permits may be required
If you wish to get married at a location other than the Town Hall, you may need permission from the landowner. If you want to get married on municipal land—such as beaches, piers, or parks—you may need to apply for a location permit. If you have questions about land use permits, you can email: markupplatelse@helsingborg.se.
