Gaming and movement meet at Sweden’s first training facility for gamers
The acclaimed Fuzed training facility – the first of its type in Sweden – is where gaming and sport meet. The concept is an active lifestyle where young people’s interest in esports/gaming is combined with physical activity and a healthy diet. The aim is to promote young people’s physical and mental health.
Fuzed is a way of addressing multiple challenges facing the leisure industry and society in general. The youth of today devotes a lot less time to physical activity, and many boys and girls who are gamers have been lacking a physical location where they can meet. Fuzed was inaugurated in 2022 and is a joint venture between the City of Helsingborg and the Fuzed company.
The visitors have found their own way here
Just a few months after opening, Fuzed succeeded in acquiring a membership numbering 4,700, and interest in it is growing all the time.
– “We had no idea how great the interest would be, and it shows that Helsingborg residents have really missed having a place like Fuzed. Many of them book in to spend an evening together with friends. Instead of sitting at home and chatting online, they come to us and game together,” says Felicia Nilsson, project manager at Fuzed.
To be able to game at Fuzed, youngsters need to be members, but both membership and a drop-in visit are free of charge. The majority of those who come to Fuzed are from Helsingborg, but there are also visitors from other municipalities.
– “We’ve had an incredibly good response, from youngsters as well as adults. There has been a lot of interest in what we do from people of all ages,” says Felicia Nilsson.
Recipient of a Swedish Sports Award
In January, Fuzed won the Pepper of the Year 2023 award. The award was presented by HRH Prince Daniel in association with Generation Pep and the Swedish Sports Confederation, with the following citation from the jury:
“This year’s winner has combined the digital interest of young people with a traditional physical arena in a bold and innovative way which transcends boundaries. It is a meeting place for children and youngsters which gives them the chance to enjoy movement and a healthier lifestyle in a digital world.”

“There are so many different stakeholders both in and outside Helsingborg who want to partner with us. These range from schools and sports clubs to other departments. They have all shown interest in our business and vision. Many had made contact with us in the autumn, but their number has been dwarfed by those who contacted us after Fuzed received the Pepper of the Year award. We are looking to offer more types of activity during 2023 and are always entering into new partnerships to ensure we can provide the very best on offer. We are currently setting up an ice rink adjacent to the esports area and sports floor. The intention is that it should provide space for both clubs and leisure skating. We expect it to be ready in December 2023/January 2024,” says Maria Jönsson, Innovation Manager at the City of Helsingborg.
Sport, dance and a wholesome diet
Fuzed has a sports floor. The difference between this sports floor and a sports floor in a sports centre is that this is an LED floor. This means that the lines for the different sports are backlit from below. You can control which lines are visible from a touchscreen on the wall. If youngsters want to play football, they press “Football”, after which only the football lines are visible. It is the same procedure if they want to swap to basketball, floorball or badminton. There is also an excellent sound system, so that if they want to use the floor for dance, this too is fully accommodated.
– “At Fuzed, we want to combine gaming with physical activity and a good diet. That’s why there is a sports floor and a café that does not sell snacks or sweets. Instead, there are smoothies, wholemeal snacks and various sugar-free drinks,” says Maria Jönsson.
